Essaouira is one of the calmest cities in Morocco, where travelers from all over the world meet to surf, listen to some good music all year round (especially during the Gnaoua Festival), and spend a great time. Which is why we’re suggesting you take a one day trip from Marrakech to Essaouira with us, and change your scenery from the busy life of Marrakech to the laid back vibes of Essaouira.
Our journey starts at 8 AM, when we’ll pick you up from your hotel or Riad in Marrakech, and drive towards Essaouira. On our way there, you’ll have the opportunity to discover another side of Morocco, with the countryside lying before your eyes, and the Argan trees growing near the road. We’ll take some time to stop and take pictures. With a little luck, we’ll also get to meet the goats who are normally on the Argan trees eating.
From there, we will take the road again to visit a women’s cooperative to witness how they make different kinds of oil and cosmetics from the Argan nuts. You can also purchase Argan oil, Amlou (a kind of paste made of honey, almonds, and Argan oil), and different other types of things from there.
Upon arriving to Essaouira, we’ll go on a guided tour of the city. You’ll have the opportunity to discover the numerous historical sites of Essaouira, take a stroll in the Medina, and discover its tiny, colorful streets.
You’ll also get to see places such as the port (where you can see fishers having their everyday activities) and The Squala, a 15thcentury fortress that used the protect the city from its enemies (especially when the Portuguese tried to take it) and where many scenes of the famous TV show Game of Thrones were shot.
After that, we’ll have a lunch break, and then you’ll have free time to swim on the beach, surf, or maybe just take a nice walk along the seaside.
7pm will find us back in Marrakech, where you can continue with your evening activities after visiting one of the most epic cities of North Africa.
