Morocco is full of diverse landscapes, from golden beaches, to the crimson houses of Marrakech, to the Atlas Mountains, to the Sahara desert, there is something for everyone; no wonder it’s one of the most popular destinations in the world. This is why we’re suggesting you discover the diversity of our country with this 2 days trip to the desert, where you can watch the sunrise over the dunes, and maybe make friends with a cute desert fox and some camels.
Here is the program of our 2 days 1 night Zagora desert trip:
Day 1 program: Marrakech – Tizi N’ Tichka – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Zagora
Our journey starts at Marrakech, from where we will set off at 7 am. We will travel across Tizi N’ Tichka, which is the highest major mountain pass of North Africa. After driving for two hours, we will stop to have a great Moroccan breakfast, enjoy the view from the mountains, and take pictures.
We will then take the road again towards the magical city of Ouarzazate (commonly called the Hollywood of Morocco since a lot of movies were made there, like Brad Pitt’s Babel), where you’ll be able to visit the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage and an example of an old fortified Moroccan city. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the Atlas Film Studios for a cinematic experience.
After having lunch in Ouarzazate, we will take off to Zagora. On the road there, we will pass by Agdz and more Berber villages. We will also have the opportunity to visit the Draa Valley, where you can see Morocco’s longest river. The scenery there is stunning!
After taking some pictures and resting a little, we will head to Zagora’s downtown, where camels will be waiting for us. We will ride them for about an hour and a half, and arrive to the camp before sunset. There, you’ll drink some sweet Berber mint tea, eat a good diner, and play some music around the fire with the Touaregs, the nomads of the Sahara.
Day 2 program: Zagora – Marrakech
We advise waking up early in the morning to watch the sun rising above the desert; it’s a stunning view that will inspire you for the whole day. After that, we will have a breakfast, and take off directly to Marrakech, where we’ll arrive in the evening.
